Introduction

Pin Code or the Postal Index Number is primarily used by the Indian Postal Administration and this national numbering system was first introduced on 15th August 1972. The six-digit number is generally included in the address to deliver letters, couriers and other items. This number series is extremely important and has various other uses such as:-

• The pin code system is similar to the US Zip code system. It is planned in such a way that all the mails are received by only one post office and they distribute it among the lower offices within its jurisdiction. These offices have the same code.
